Mozart: His Life and Music
Lin Bunza
Saturday, March 8, 2008
9 a.m. – Noon
Composer of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was born in Salzburg, Austria. During his childhood, Mozart was in high demand, performing music all over Europe for kings, queens and princes, yet he had trouble keeping a job during his adulthood. In his short lifetime of only 35 years, Mozart wrote more than 600 musical compositions! At his death, Mozart was thrown into a poor man’s grave and his body has never been found. This lecture will be richly illustrated with slides and musical examples.
Linda Hathaway Bunza, who lives in Portland, is Director of the Columbia Research Institute for the Arts and Humanities. Lin has been a writer, editor, lecturer, and/or consultant for the Harvard Educational Review, Symposium Magazine, The Andover Review, the Portland Art Museum, the Portland Opera, the Oregon Historical Society and the Library of Congress. She lectures frequently on the history of music and art at conferences and universities throughout the country.
