BETHANY CENTER

Love Divine All Love's Excelling:
The Eucharist as the Wellspring of the Church
Fr. Paul Janowiak, SJ

Saturday, May 17, 2008
9 a.m. – Noon

It is significant that the first major teaching of Pope Benedict XVI's pontificate centered on the relationship between the Eucharist and love. We will look at that essential relationship and explore how every Eucharistic celebration is an action of the totus Christus, the 'whole Christ' bodied forth, as Vatican II reminds us, in the Church gathered for prayer as the fundamental expression of her identity. All Roman Catholic piety surrounding the presence of Christ in the Eucharist flows from that fundamental wellspring. (To read Pope Benedict’s Apostolic Exhortation, “google” Sacramentum Caritatis.)

Fr. Paul Janowiak, SJ, currently serves as the Socius to the Provincial (first assistant). His provincial describes his qualifications for the task as pastoral gifts, his joy and his friendship. Prior to this role, Fr. Paul taught in the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. He taught Liturgy, Sacraments and Preaching. He also served as the University’s liturgy coordinator and director of ministry of the Chapel of St. Ignatius on campus. He has published numerous articles and a book entitled, The Holy Preaching: The Sacramentality of the Word in the Liturgical Assembly, and is currently working on a book about the presence of Christ in the liturgy.
