OVERVIEW
The Sisters have earned a reputation for outstanding
success in whatever they were called to do. These were
the valiant
women where courage and faith in God fortified them throughout
[history].” -- From “These Valiant Women: History
of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon” by Wilfred P.
Schoenberg, S.J.
Since 1886, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) provided
community care through faith and action throughout the
Pacific Northwest – and
beyond. They touch the
community in so many ways at every stage of life -- from
the infants at Little Flower Development Center
to
the
seniors
at Maryville. “Think of the news stories that have appeared throughout
the past year addressing social challenges in Oregon and
elsewhere,” SSMO Superior General Sister
Barbara Jean Laughlin notes. “Education. Child
care. Elder care. Hunger and emergency assistance. Peace
and justice.
Through
their ministries, the Sisters take an active role in providing
community care in all of these areas.”
Community care is the hallmark of the Sisters and
the dedicated staff, teachers, students and parents who
are
part of the Sisters' campus
ministries.
