SSMO Foundation

Foundation Director/Foundation Corporate President

The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon (SSMO) and their sponsored ministries at Valley Catholic School and Maryville Nursing Home seek a dynamic leader to oversee the planning, design, and implementation of all fundraising for annual operations, capital and endowment campaigns, capital improvements, and long-term financial security, including individual and corporate support, major gifts, foundation solicitation, planned giving, and special events and initiatives.  The new Director will serve as President of the SSMO Foundation and therefore also a member of the campus Executive Team, coordinating the Foundation’s activities with those of other campus entities and collaborating to shape the managerial framework needed to support the Sisters’ sponsored ministries and the 500 employees who are integral to their success. Additional responsibilities will include strategic planning, donor stewardship, public outreach, and supervising a team of highly motivated development, alumni relations, and event-planning professionals.

In order to be considered for this position, a candidate must be an expert relationship and community builder with:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field and evidence of continuing professional education via conferences, seminars, and/or professional associations.
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of professional development experience in progressively responsible positions, a proven track record in major-gift fundraising, and supervision and leadership of a nonprofit development team, preferably in a faith-based academic and/or health care setting.
  • Understanding of and passionate support for the Sisters’ sponsored ministries at Maryville Nursing Home and Valley Catholic School, as well as their organizational and mission-driven culture.
  • Proven success at calling on and soliciting gifts from the highest level executives, community leaders, and private philanthropists.
  • Experience planning, leading, and managing development projects, including collaborating with stakeholders and tracking/reporting progress.
  • The ability and desire to actively deepen current donor relationships and cultivate new ones.
  • The ability to envision, launch, and manage new programs and projects that generate revenue and good will in support of strategic and organizational goals.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations and coach others to be persuasive in promoting the Sisters and their sponsored ministries to potential donors.
  • The demonstrated skills of an approachable, empowering, and collaborative supervisor.
  • Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the Raiser’s Edge Donor Management System and Microsoft Office products.

Though not required, we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with the Catholic philanthropic community in the Portland metro area.

The components for success are already in place. The Sisters have a long history – they are celebrating their 125th Jubilee this year – and an enormous pool of good will in the local area. Add a meticulously well run and highly reputable nursing home and an exceptional, national award-winning education program in Oregon’s only Pre-K to 12 Catholic school, and all that’s missing is the fundraising expertise to connect with the openly supportive community.

Compensation for this position will be $90,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on the successful candidate’s level of experience and expertise. Full benefits will be included.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to hr@ssmoministries.org.
