With his Valiants facing Cascade Christian in the Southern Oregon Subaru Christmas Classic, Gray delivered just as well as Santa Claus, scoring 25 points and adding five rebounds, five assists and five steals to lift Valley Catholic past the Challengers 59-46 in the tournament championship.

For Blood, a split second was more than enough. One year to the day after losing to OES on the same Liberty High School soccer field last season in the 3A title game, Valley’s reality came full circle. In their minds, justice was finally served.

Valley Catholic’s Carter Buuck fired a six-inning perfect game in Wednesday’s 10-0 season-opening victory over visiting Scappoose. Buuck, the junior left-hander, faced only two three-ball counts in the game and ended up throwing a total of 77 pitches. He also helped himself at the plate, going 1 for 2 and driving in three runs.
